THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PAIR CHECK TO IMPROVE LEARNING AUTONOMY ATTITUDE AND ACHIEVEMENT OF SCIENCE SUBJECT ON THE MATERIALS OF EARTH STRUCTURE FOR THE FIFTH GRADE

Education is an action which shapes cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects of human beings. It is associated with teaching and learning activities between teachers and students as well as interactions presented. The identified problem discovered was low attitudes of learning autonomy and achievement. This study aimed to improve the students’ autonomy attitude and achievement on science subjects through Pair Check learning model. The research type was a classroom action research, which consisted of two cycles. The subjects of this study were V B graders at SD Negeri Sokaraja Lor with 23 students (13 male and 10 female students). This classroom action research was conducted in 2 cycles and each cycle had 2 meetings. This research implemented test and non-test techniques. Students’ learning autonomy data obtained from autonomy observations viewed at each meeting and the autonomy attitude scale was given to students at the end of each cycle, while learning achievement was obtained from the evaluation test given in each meeting. The study obtained the average score of student autonomy observation in the first cycle was 2.41 in insufficient criteria then improved in the second cycle to 2.97 with good criteria, while the average value of the autonomy attitude scale in the first cycle was 2.44 with insufficient criteria then improved in cycle II by 3.02 in good criteria. Student learning achievement obtained an average score of 67.16 in cycle I with completeness 65% then it improved 77.60 in cycle II with completeness 82%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that Pair Check model can improve the attitude of autonomy and student learning achievement on science subject of earth structure for the fifth grade at SD Negeri Sokaraja Lor.
