This research was motivated by low participation and learning achievement in Natural Science lesson of the students in Grade V A of SD Negeri 1 Dukuhwaluh. Students are less active in the classroom and easily forget the learning material that has been taught in the previous meeting. The teacher tried to use the Meaningful Instructional Design (MID) learning model to create an active and enjoyable learning atmosphere. The purpose of this study was to increase participation and learning achievement on the material of Soil through Meaningful Instructional Design (MID) learning model in Grade V A. This was a classroom action research and the data were collected using test and non-test technique. Test technique was used to measure student achievement while non-test technique was employed to measure student participation. Then the data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive. Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that the participation and learning achievement of students could be increased using Meaningful Instructional Design (MID) learning model. The average result of student participation in cycle I was 3.2 and it increased to 3.5. While the completeness of student learning achievement in the first cycle was 65% and then it increased to 80%.
